The Dog
There use to be this dog that wonders in from somewhere into the alleyway between my apartment. I would look out my window and there it was looking for scraps around the garbage cans. Then one day some of the neighboring children came into the alleyway and trapped the dog into a box. I watched them light firecrackers and dropped them into the box. I could hear it howl and cry in fear. They did this constantly whenever they saw the dog.
So, I rescued this dog and brought her home. She feared me at first, but I took care of her and gave her a home. Now she sits with me when I read, sleeps at the foot of my bed at night and follows besides me where ever I go. Although every once in awhile she would bite me or growl at me. She does this because sometimes she forgets she is safe. So I forgive her when she bites, or growl at me because I know how it was like to have never been safe.
